Jacky Stapel and Mike Grace, Democratic Candidates for Assembly in New Jersey’s 24th Legislative District looked good at last Tuesday’s candidate forum sponsored by the Ogdensburg Historical Society.

Scott Garrett’s homophobia has been exposed. So has the extent of his right wing fanaticism. Notably, he helped found a reactionary block in the GOP congressional caucus that seeks to close down our government. Even Republicans are taking notice. As a result, it appears that Congressman Garrett’s lock on re-election has disappeared.

Last night’s event at the Ogdensburg Firehouse sponsored by the Ogdensburg Historical Society highlighted the stark contrast between the positions and approach taken by Democratic candidates for New Jersey Assembly Mike Grace and Jacky Stapel compared with that of their GOP rivals Gail Phoebus and Parker Space.

It appears that our governor wouldn’t even carry New Jersey if the GOP nominates him to run for President in the 2016 election.

Scott Garrett was one of the nine founders of the “House Freedom Caucus”, which now numbers about forty members of House of Representatives. This tiny group is just large enough to have driven Speaker John Boehner out of office and to have created general chaos in Congress.
