The SCDC congratulates Chairman John Currie, Vice Chairwoman Peg Schaffer, Secretary Janice Kovach and Treasurer Kelly Maer on their re-election to the New Jersey State Democratic Committee!

“No one should ever be excused from murder because their victim is gay or transgender, and New Jersey must send an unequivocal message that we fully value the lives and dignity of LGBTQ people,” said Christian Fuscarino, executive director for Garden State Equality. “The Assembly’s vote today to advance a ban on the gay and trans “panic” defense is a significant step forward, but at a time when LGBTQ people — especially transgender Americans — have been victim to an increasing number of hate crimes, we must ensure that this legislation quickly moves through the Senate so Governor Murphy can sign it into law.”

“Governor Phil Murphy, alongside First Lady Tammy Murphy and former Vice President Al Gore at the Liberty Science Center, today signed Executive Order No. 92, raising New Jersey’s offshore wind goal from 3,500 megawatts of offshore wind-generated electricity by 2030 to 7,500 megawatts by 2035. The Executive Order, which more than doubles New Jersey’s offshore wind goal, will deliver the clean, renewable energy generation needed to meet the State’s goals of 50 percent renewable energy by 2030 and a 100 percent clean energy economy by 2050, as well as create thousands of jobs. New Jersey is committed to pursuing responsible offshore wind development with the full involvement of key stakeholders, including the commercial and recreational fishing industries.”
