Sussex County Democratic Committee Honors Pride Month 2020

As we approach the end of Pride Month, the SCDC is pleased to see positive progress both nationally and locally. June 2020 has been historic for the LGBTQ+ community. This month, the Supreme Court ruled that the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits sex discrimination, also applies to discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. This decision serves as a vital and unexpected victory in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality. In addition, we celebrate the five-year anniversary of the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision, which established marriage equality as the law of the land. In the June primaries, we witnessed the major victories of Ritchie Torres and Mondaire Jones, who are poised to be the nation’s first Black gay Congressmen.

Sherrill, Hern Introduce Legislation to Expand Telehealth Access for Medicare Recipients

Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) and Representative Kevin Hern (OK-01) introduced the bipartisan Protect Telehealth Access Act today to build on telehealth’s proven success during the COVID-19 pandemic by codifying Medicare reimbursements for telehealth services. The Protect Telehealth Access Act removes the requirement that (1) an individual receiving telehealth services must be located in a rural area or health professional shortage area, and (2) an individual may only receive telehealth services at home in certain limited circumstances.

Black Lives Matter Byram Continues Call for Social Change

“More than 100 people continued the call for equality during the latest Black Lives Matter rally Saturday at CO Johnson Park in Byram.

Dubbed “Black Lives Matter Byram,” Saturday’s rally was organized by a group of Lenape Valley Regional High School graduates called Patriots Alumni for Social Action, and featured roughly a dozen speakers.”
