The Newton Democratic Committee held its first mobilization meeting of 2017 on Sunday February 26 at 7 Kory Road, Newton. The Committee discussed strategies to develop and support candidates for local, county, and state offices, filling County Committee seats, Newton Day, and opportunities for voter registration events.
Chairman John McGuigan said, “Two years ago, we only had two volunteers. At that time, we didn't have the manpower to do very much. Now we have seven active committee members. There are 11 people at this meeting and we continue to grow. There is so much more that we can accomplish now. Just look around this room for a moment. This is what democracy looks like!”
Mr. Michael DeVilliers, who is managing Democratic Congressman Josh Gottheimer’s Newton office, spoke to the group, saying that Gottheimer wants to hear from residents, even if “it’s about potholes” and is there to help residents connect their requests with the right people. Gottheimer’s office, located at 93 Spring Street in Newton, is opened to the public on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9am to 5pm.
The next meeting of the Newton Democratic Committee will be on March 26, 2017 at 7 Kory Road, Newton at 2:00 p.m. For more information or to participate in the Sussex County Democratic Committee, go to www.sussexdems.com.
