‘Long LGBTQ history’: Vernon to host Pride Month celebration Thursday

"We're kind of setting the standard for Sussex County," said Carl Contino, deputy director of Sussex County Pride. "It's just important for people to know that there is a gay community in Vernon. It's not silent, it's not going anywhere."

The township of Vernon “will host an event to celebrate Pride Month and its LGBTQ residents this week.
The event will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Vernon Municipal Building on Church Street. Mayor Howard Burrell will be on hand to receive a piece of artwork from local artist Liri Ziba as an expression of thanks for organizing the ceremony.
Attendees can also view a display of floral arrangements surrounding a Pride Flag that is being exhibited in the municipal building throughout the month. The work was created by Brant Shih and Dearrick Knupp, the couple who owns the Fox & Bear Lodge, and includes stories of notable LGBTQ township residents.”
