VOTER REMINDER POSTS, Day 18 — Know Your Candidates, Part 3

We keep seeing signs around the county that read "Had Enough? Vote Republican." Well, that's pretty rich, considering that we've had one-party Republican rule for nearly forty years — and no Democratic representation on the County Commissioner board for over two decades. Damaris Lira and Camila DiResta aim to change all of that.

A paralegal and a teacher from Sussex Borough and Vernon Township, respectively, Damaris and Camila will bring both fresh faces and fresh perspectives to county governance. Their platform is solid and straightforward, a back-to-basics approach that shouldn't be considered transformational, but perhaps amounts to that — especially when one considers the lack of progress the county has made during many years of Republican oversight. Their motto is to serve, preserve, and inspire, with plans to do the following:

*Listen to constituents, encourage public participation in local government, and focus on actual results for residents, not the same politics as usual.

*Bring balance to the County Commissioner board, as well as working to unite the commissioners in doing what's right for the citizens of Sussex County.

*Focus on growing and enhancing Sussex County's bread-and-butter industry: tourism.

*Invest in local education, particularly in Sussex County Community College, which often represents the best opportunity for large numbers of Sussex County kids to afford quality higher education and move on to a meaningful and well-paying career.

*Tackle unsafe working conditions in the county, as well as actively working to fix a whole host of problems we face on the county level.

Their opponents? We think it's just more of the same.

Damaris and Camila are committed to making Sussex County a place that's good for everybody. To some, that's apparently a controversial stand.

We don't agree.

And for that reason alone, among many many others, we wholeheartedly endorse the Lira/DiResta ticket and believe they have more than earned your vote on Tuesday.

When you vote for two, make sure you vote for these two.
