The SCDC hosted a Candidates’ Workshop for people interested in running for local elected positions. We thank all those who attended, encouraged by us to serve their communities. If you missed the event, here are some notes.

On January 18th, the Sussex County Democratic Committee held the first in a series of meetings designed to form or strengthen already existing municipal Democratic committees/clubs across the County, and Sussex Democrats responded.

Sussex County would like to thank our local candidates for throwing their hats in the ring this election cycle.

At last night’s general meeting of the SCDC, the committee agreed that Scott Garrett is beatable, and voters in Sussex County could tip the scales to make that happen.

Well over 100 Dems took part in Sunday’s Sussex/Warren Democratic picnic at Sand Bar Park in Hackettstown.  Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop also took part in the event.

Visitor traffic at the SCDC booth at the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show has been wonderful. As a result of this year’s presidential campaign, visitors on the whole have been especially friendly, which bodes well for November’s election.

Harry Kaplan, a long time member of the Sussex County Democratic Committee and also Commander Emeritus of Newton’s American Legion Post 86, met with Senator Cory Booker yesterday. Both took part in a forum on veterans’ issues at Sussex County Community College.

Over the past few months, Sussex County has seen a dramatic increase in the number of registered Democrats. Since February 2016, the number has grown over twenty percent, and now stands at just over 18,000.

Last night, Sussex Dems gathered at the Irish Cottage Inn in Franklin to have a drink or two and to chat.
