On Monday, Gov. Chris Christie vetoed legislation that would have allowed striking workers to collect unemployment benefits while their employers are in violation of labor contracts or agreements.

The rift in the Sussex County Republican Party continues to widen over the replenishment of New Jersey’s Transportation Trust Fund.

“This is the same thing I’m going to have to do, over and over and over again,” Steve Oroho was reported as saying (NJ Herald, 23 Oct.) after the state senator met with Mayor Nicholas Giordano of Franklin, a fellow Republican.

“This” was successfully convincing Giordano to retract his stated demand for Oroho’s resignation or recall in light of the senator’s sponsorship of a bill that includes a hefty hike in the state’s gas tax.

Over the past several years, Assemblywoman Gail Phoebus has touted her enthusiastic support for bringing New Jersey Transit rail service to Sussex County. But when it comes to funding that service, Phoebus acts like an ostrich with its head in the sand.
