Letter to the Editor: Supports 11th Congressional District Candidate Mikie Sherrill

Congresswoman Sherrill’s service to her country and her leadership in Congress clearly demonstrates that she is the best qualified person to continue representing the 11th district.

Dear Editor:

I support Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for Congress and urge all voters in the 11th Congressional District to do the same.  Congresswoman Sherrill has worked tirelessly to bring Republicans and Democrats together in an effort to pass legislation to provide desperately needed assistance during the Covid 19 shutdown. And, she continues working to assure that assistance continues for people whose jobs have not returned. Last week, she requested that the Treasury Secretary and IRS Commissioner continue issuing Economic Impact Payments based on current information until all 2019 returns are processed.

She worked to repeal the state and local SALT tax cap that discriminates against New Jersey residents.  She passed the landmark legislation to give Medicare the power to negotiate directly with drug companies to lower drug prices for all Americans.  That bill included a provision for savings from drug costs to be invested in research for cancer, rare diseases and antibiotic resistance.

Still fighting for the interests of Sussex County, Congresswoman Sherrill led the effort to secure a $1.5 Billion grant to address opioid addiction in the District.

Congresswoman Sherrill has served her country for most of her adult life. After she graduated from the US Naval Academy, she spent 10 years on active duty in the Navy, flying Sea King Helicopters in Europe and the Middle East. She worked on the battle watch floor of the European theater during the IRAQ invasion.

After the Navy, Rep Sherrill earned a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics and a Law degree from Georgetown University. She served as an Assistant US Attorney in New Jersey, prosecuting Federal cases. Congresswoman Sherrill’s service to her country and her leadership in Congress clearly demonstrates that she is the best qualified person to continue representing the 11th district.
