Perspective on Sparta Development from Former Councilman and Planning Board Member

“I recognize that every decision made by a governing body cannot have full support of the citizens. Or very few decisions would ever be made. It is the role of the Council and other Boards to make the hard decisions. But I might suggest to you that you have a solemn duty to convey your Town vision and be very clear about why such decisions are being made and how they are in the very best interest of the town.
You may not think of it now, but you will be leaving your legacy with the town well into the future. I feel pride when I pass through the Town Center. Disappointment when I recall passenger rail was not instituted. Satisfaction each summer when water is not rationed. I advise you to think long term. Some of what you do will be irreversible. Your duty to us is to be transparent and explain yourselves. Most of all, do not be captive to the process. We are all depending on you.”
