Franklin WWII veteran awarded a Quilt of Valor for his service at age 96

We applaud this wonderful initiative. If you have not yet, be sure to check out their work in the Richard’s Building during the State Fair next summer.

FRANKLIN — The Sussex County Quilters created and presented a Quilt of Valor to World War II veteran Eddie Mindlin.

At 96, the borough native and long-time member of the Franklin Borough Fire Department accepted the honor during a presentation on Veterans' Day at the firehouse.

Mindlin joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Satyr, a landing craft repair ship. He was part of the force which was preparing to invade Okinawa when the war ended and became part of the post-war Occupational Force.

Eddie Mindlin, 96, is seen in this photo from this past October's Sussex County Firemen's Association parade.

For the past eight summers, the local group shared a booth at the New Jersey State Fair, and has invited attendees to sign blocks of fabric that will be made into quilts.
