Rainbow Pride flag set on fire at Sparta church as police investigate 'bias incident'

The Sussex County Democratic Committee is saddened and angered to hear of this abhorrent act of hate. It is shameful that anyone would trespass onto church grounds for the purpose of setting fire to a pride flag. We commend the Sparta United Methodist Church for their unwavering support of LGBTQ+ community and refusing to be bullied into removing this important symbol.
In response to this cowardly act, we encourage all of you to patronize local businesses and organizations that are LGBTQ+ friendly. If you are not already doing so, be sure to also follow and support Sussex County Pride, so that they may continue their action and advocacy of creating safe and welcoming spaces for all.
