Democratic Party challenger Josh Gottheimer upset the incumbent Scott Garrett to win the fifth congressional district.
Gottheimer will be the first Democrat in more than three decades to represent parts of the fifth Congressional District. His win gives the Democrats a 7-5 majority in the House delegation from New Jersey. All other incumbents in New Jersey were re-elected.
As of this writing, the ballot count has Gottheimer ahead by 10,200 votes. Scott Garrett has not yet conceded, stating that the race shouldn't be called until the provisional and absentee ballots are counted.
