A newly formed group, Veterans for Garrett, endorsed Congressman Scott Garrett. They said they based their endorsement on his sponsorship of legislation meant to aid injured 9/11 first responders.
In fact, Garrett opposed the legislation. He voted against it twice.
First responders don’t see it the same as “Veterans for Garrett”. Unions representing police and firefighters endorse Garrett’s Democratic opponent Josh Gottheimer. And they say why:
"It was simply unconscionable that he [Garrett] voted against health care for law enforcement and first responders in the wake of the horrific Sept. 11 attack," said Patrick Colligan, president of the police union.
