The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Fish and Wildlife, has proposed a Forestry Stewardship plan covering 3500 acres of public forest in Sparta, Ogdensburg and Hardyston Townships in Sussex County and Jefferson Township in Morris County.
The Skylands Group, NJ Sierra Club, and some other environmental groups have raised objections to the plan and will be airing those objections at a meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 21st at 7 pm at the Franklin Fire House.
The New Jersey Forestry Association is also offering a look at the proposed Forestry Stewardship plan for the Sparta Mountain Wildlife Management Area. On Saturday, April 30, 2016, it is holding a Forest Stewardship Plan Overview & Field Tour starting at 11 am at the VFW in Sparta. The event is free, but registration is required. There’s more information about the event, and the New Jersey Forestry Association on their web site.
