On Thursday, Assemblyman Parker Space and Assemblywoman Gail Phoebus will have an opportunity to showcase their political courage.
They will vote on a resolution to override Governor Christie’s veto of a bill that prevents people with serious mental health problems from expunging public records in order to get back their weapons.
The bill (S2360/A3593) passed both houses of the New Jersey Legislature with a unanimous vote.
Unfortunately, State Senator Steve Oroho has already caved in to Christie’s presidential ambitions by refusing to join his Senate colleagues in their successful vote to override the Governor’s veto. Will Space stand firm with his original vote? Or can the Governor count on him to sacrifice public safety to bolster Christie’s political aspirations?
Will Phoebus show that she doesn’t meekly follow in Christie’s flock? Will she vote to reinstate common sense legislation that promotes weapon safety?
