Close it down says Garrett. Fortunately, reason prevailed

Yesterday, Congressman Scott Garrett once again embarrassed his constituents in Sussex County and the rest of CD5 with a petulant vote to close down the federal government unless he and his right wing colleagues got their way to cripple Planned Parenthood.

Fortunately, they were unsuccessful. The House of Representatives adopted a resolution (HR719) to fund the government through December of this year. The Senate adopted a similar resolution earlier in the week.  The vote was 277 in favor and 151 against. The only New Jersey Congressman joining Garrett to seek a governmental shutdown was Chris Smith representing the 4th Congressional District.

Here’s the New York Times report about the temporary funding measure.
