Rallies to support women, human rights, and national day of opposition

Despite losing the popular vote for the presidency by almost 3 million votes, GOP lawmakers have claimed a national “mandate” to dismantle the social safety net, restrict women’s reproductive rights, eliminate environmental protections and in general turn the county away from ensuring the human and civil rights that “make America great” and that the Democratic Party supports wholeheartedly.

SCNOW-200.jpgThe newly formed Sussex County Chapter of the National Organization for Women will hold a rally in support of Planned Parenthood at the Newton Green on Sunday, January 15. The rally is in response to the Republican Party's threats to defund Planned Parenthood as part of a repeal of the Affordable Care Act.  It is held on the fifteenth as part of a coordinated "National Day of Action".

To let the government know that millions of us are not on board, all across the nation those opposed to Donald Trump’s self-styled “movement” will be marching and rallying in support of human rights on Jan. 21, the day after the inauguration.

The largest of these will be the Women’s (in name only; everybody’s invited) March on Washington, but not everybody can get to Washington.

So in the Garden State, the New Jersey Democratic State Committee is calling for solidarity on that date with a march to the State House and rally in Trenton.

Participants will gather at 10 a.m. for an opening program at the War Memorial and then march half a mile to the State House for a rally and call to action at noon.

The rally will be nonpartisan and all those concerned about the direction our nation and state are taking are welcome—in fact, encouraged—to join.
