If you’re interested in running for public office or if you’re thinking about working on a political campaign, the Sussex County Democratic Committee (SCDC) invites you to a information and training workshop entitled: “Campaigning 101: What You Need To Know.” The workshop will be held at the Hampton Diner, 36 Hampton House Road (Ro…ute 206), Newton, on Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 9:30 to 11:30AM.

As in the past at this annual event, veteran campaigners will teach the basics of organizing a campaign for public offices such as seats on local governmental bodies like boards of education and municipal committees and councils . You will learn how to file the necessary petitions, deal with campaign financing and reporting, and identify your potential support. Also, you’ll pick up tips on how to reach out to voters, and learn the basics of conducting “get out the vote” operations.

Presenters will include Richard Ecke, a principal in the public relations firm of Berry Ecke Associates; Carolyn Magee, former SCDC Vice-Chair; Diane Wexler, SCDC Treasurer and former candidate for Vernon Township Council; and Ed Selby, SCDC Executive Director and seasoned political campaigner. This panel reflects several decades of hands-on campaign experience at all levels.

Obama campaign seeks talent

If you aspire to become a New Jersey delegate to the Democratic National Convention this summer, it might be wise to give some serious consideration to the following message. Or, if you know someone who might be interested, pass it along.

If you do sign up, please let me know. Also, if you missed the earlier post about the State Deocratic Committee’s plans for recruiting members of its convention delegation (which outlines the steps for applying and the criteria for selection) look at the next post.

Obama for America and Organizing for America are looking for bright, motivated people for our Organizing Fellowship Program — a 12-week program that will be held three times in 2012: during the spring, the summer, and the fall.

Here’s why you should think about it, or pass this along to someone who might be interested in applying: If you’re an Obama organizing fellow, you’ll gain hands-on campaign experience and strengthen your leadership skills, while working in a fast-paced environment. You’ll also learn firsthand about the grassroots efforts that drive this campaign — including recruiting volunteers and developing relationships with supporters in communities across the country.

Do you want to be part of the New Jersey delegation at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC in September of 2012?

The New Jersey Democratic State Committee aims to make its 2012 delegation the most inclusive in history. And it urges all Democrats in the state that are interested in attending the convention to participate, and to take the steps necessary to join the delegation.

To give everyone a chance, the NJDSC will be holding delegate selection workshops around the state in the coming weeks. A workshop is planned for Sussex County. You are invited to attend.
