About the SCDC
The SCDC is the legal entity representing the Democratic Party in Sussex County. Its members are elected by registered Democrats who live in the county. Two registered Democrats from each election district — one man and one woman — may serve on the committee.
SCDC Executive Officers
Mike Busche
SCDC Chairperson
Mike Busche is a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology and the New York University School of Law. He worked as a manufacturing engineer before serving in the United States Coast Guard as a deck officer. Upon discharge, and while attending law school, he worked as an editor for several trade magazines and subsequently as a public relations account executive. He has resided and has practiced law in Sussex County since 1972. A lifelong Democrat, he was involved in politics in Bergen County in the 60’s and has been active in Sussex County Democratic politics for the past several years. Busche resides in Sparta.
Cindy McVey
SCDC Chairperson
Cindy McVey is a violinist with the New Sussex Symphony, the Metropolitan Orchestra of New Jersey, the Essex County Community Players Orchestra, and the Society of Musical Arts Orchestra. She is a member of the Hardyston Township Board of Education, the New Sussex Symphony Board of Directors, and is the New Jersey State Music Co-Chair of Delta Kappa Gamma. She is also a member of the American Association of University Women and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Cindy holds a Bachelors of Science degrees in Music Education and Music Therapy and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education.
Diane Wexler
SCDC Treasurer
Diane has been Treasurer of the Sussex County Democratic Committee since 2009 and also has serves as Treasurer of the Vernon Township Democratic Committee since 2005. Wexler has been active locally in politics since 2005. She has been self employed for 30 years operating a bookkeeping/secretarial service, most recently expanding into IT services. Wexler lives in Vernon Township.
Jerry Sattin
SCDC Secretary
A life-long Democrat, Jerry Sattin has served as Secretary of the Sussex County Democratic Committee since 2010. He is a retired attorney and college professor, having worked for over 25 years at Newark’s McCarter & English LLP, where he specialized in appellate advocacy and litigating claims against insurance companies. He was also a law professor at Seton Hall University, and an Associate Professor of English at Bergen Community College, where he taught courses in writing and literature. In addition to his law degree, Sattin also hold a Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of Illinois. He is a resident of Sparta.
Ed Selby
Executive Director
Ed Selby is a Vietnam Veteran, who has been active in the politics of the 24th Legislative District since moving to the area in 1979. Ed currently serves as Senior Associate and Board member of the Center for Creative Learning. He is a Research Fellow with the Creativity Research Unit in Buffalo, New York, and an Adjunct Professor with Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education. He lectures, offers seminars and workshops, and writes on creativity, individual style, and talent development. He is the principal author of VIEW: An Assessment of Problem Solving Style. Ed also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Sussex County Charter School for Technology. He received his M.A. in Educational Psychology from Montclair University and a Ph.D. in Education from Walden University. He worked in New Jersey schools as a music and drama teacher for over 30 years. For over 15 years he served as President of the Board of Directors of the Sussex County Teen Arts Festival. He is past President of the Sussex County Technical School Board of Education. Ed and his wife Joan live in Hampton Township. They have three adult children and seven grandchildren.
