SCDC hears about Democratic campaigns in Sussex County

During Thursday's meeting, the SCDC was briefed about the status of the congressional campaigns affecting the county.

SCDC_apr14.jpgMichele Van Allen discussed the status of her campaign for Sussex County Freeholder at last night’s meeting of the Sussex County Democratic Committee. She reported that she quickly garnered more than enough signatures on her petition for candidacy and already has a good start on raising a credible amount of campaign cash.

In the Fifth Congressional District, Josh Gottheimer’s campaign is moving forward apace. It has been very successful in raising campaign funds. It already has over 2 million dollars. Gottheimer is unopposed in the Democratic primary scheduled for June 7th for the nomination as our congressional candidate in CD5.

Three candidates will appear on the primary ballot for the Democratic nomination to run for Congress in Eleventh Congressional District: Joseph Wenzel, Richard McFarlane and Lee Ann Brogowski. Wenzel and McFarlane, both of whom appeared before a convention of the Morris County Democratic Committee last week (Brogowski did not), will appear at the next SCDC meeting scheduled for May 18, 2016.

The municipalities of Byram, Hopatcong, Ogdensburg, Sparta and Stanhope which together contain slightly more than one third of Sussex County’s voters, are in CD11. Republican Rodney Frelinghuysen currently serves as Congressman in CD11.

The remainder of Sussex County’s voters reside in CD5. Congressman Scott Garrett is incumbent there.
